Australians intending to escape for winter have deemed Sri Lanka the hottest emerging destination, according to new flight search data.Flight comparison website Skyscanner revealed searches to Sri Lanka by Australians increased by over 250 percent year-on-year since 2012.While Europe and the United States are still the most sought after destinations, World Cup fever has seen Aussies searching more flights to Brazil, rising more than 220 percent since last year.The Philippines was one of the top three emerging destinations Australians searched.Indonesia, Thailand and New Zealand also made the top ten most-searched destinations.“Sri Lanka is fast becoming the go-to beach holiday for Australians looking to visit a country a little less popular than the obvious hot spots,” Skyscanner market development manager Australia Dave Boyte said.“But, those ‘popular’ destinations like Indonesia are still high on the agenda for Australians with searches to Indonesia increasing by 194 percent since last year.”Source = e-Travel Blackboard: P.T.last_img
