first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: P.T Image Source: The Sunday Telegraph Sydney Airport reported that passenger traffic has reached a new monthly high in August, rising 5.7 percent compared to the same period last year.Both international and domestic traffic increased in August, growing 7 percent and 4.9 percent respectively, according to The Moodie Report.International traffic was driven by double-digit growth in Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese and Indian nationals arriving in Sydney,” Sydney Airport chief executive Kerrie Mather said.“In addition, Australian outbound grew by 4.4 percent driven by increased travel to destinations such as the USA, Middle East and South East Asia.”Ms Mather said capacity was a key driver of passenger growth, with airlines such as Aerolineas Argentinas, China Eastern and Air Canada adding more seats to Sydney Airport from December this year. “This is the third consecutive month of growth in the domestic market… however competition in the low cost segment has been the catalyst for passenger growth with Tiger and Jetstar providing the strongest contributions,” Ms Mather said.last_img
