DONEGAL FIGHT FANS LEFT DEVASTATED BY DUFFY OMISSION FROM UFC DUBLIN

first_imgDonegal fight fans are reeling this morning – following the decision by UFC medics to withdraw Joseph Duffy from his UFC headline fight against Dustin Poirier in Dublin. Tickets for the fight at the 3Arena sold out in minutes when they went on sale in early September.Hundreds of Duffy supporters from Donegal snapped up tickets and booked accommodation in the capital ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash.Supporters have been left gutted after Duffy was forced to withdraw late last night after suffering concussion in sparring. Duffy has a large fan-base and had supporters from London, Wales, Glasgow and the UAE all travelling over for the fight on Saturday. However, UFC’s medical staff determined that Duffy was unfit to face Poirier due to the concussion he suffered. Some fans are looking to flog their tickets – as it seems many don’t have much interest in the other fighters on the undercard.Duffy’s return to Ireland was the main attraction and some have already received a refund due to the cancellation. Duffy’s stock has risen considerably since making his UFC bow in March. Two devastating first-round wins propelled his reputation and UFC president Dana White decided that Duffy would headline the UFC card in Dublin.Duffy is also the last man to beat Conor McGregor – and he was hotly tipped to put Dustin Poirier to the sword on Saturday night. When Duffy will fight next is unclear, but he will be hopeful of fighting before the end of 2015.Duffy posted the following message on his Facebook timeline, “So sad to announce that I won’t be fighting on Saturday. “After a strike to the head in training I had precautionary medical tests which resulted in me being deemed not fit to fight.“Obviously I’m absolutely gutted, I really wanted that fight and felt sharp in training.“Firstly, a huge apology to Dustin. We have both put in an incredible amount of work to get ready for the fight, he’s a great fighter and I hope I get another chance to face him.“Sorry to all my fans, friends and family who were planning to come and see me fight and who have supported me all the way. “Although it’s hard to think about anything other than the disappointment right now, I can’t wait to get another fight booked in and hope to be in the octagon as soon as possible.“Good luck to my teammate Tom Breeze, thanks to my camp Tristar and to the UFC.“Saturday will still be an amazing night for MMA in Ireland.DONEGAL FIGHT FANS LEFT DEVASTATED BY DUFFY OMISSION FROM UFC DUBLIN was last modified: October 22nd, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:newsSportlast_img read more
